Site Abstract

The included wildlife encyclopedia of plants and animals can be searched by both scientific and common names. The wildlife encyclopedia can also be searched by various taxonomic headings. Our image and textual library has numerous strengths as follows:
Our back-boned animal, phylum Chordata, library portrays over 2,400 chordates with an extra 200 breeds and subspecies. In the shark and ray group we portray 31 species. Included in this group are 6 species of sturgeons and over 18 species of sharks. In the back-boned fish we portray over 500 species of marine and fresh water fish. Our amphibian group portrays over 190 species in total. Included in this group are over 18 species of poison arrow frogs. The genus Rana, true frogs, is portrayed by over a dozen species. The Bufo genus, toads, is portrayed by about 20 different species. The reptile group portrays over 450 different reptile life forms. Included in this group are over 60 different species of turtles, referred to as the Chelonia order. There are about 20 different species of crocodiles and alligators shown. Numerous species of rattle snakes, Crotalus, are included. The vipers, Vipera, are represented by over 15 life forms. The bird group is portrayed by over 930 different bird species. Numerous egrets and herons, Egretta, and Ardea, are portrayed with some very impressive images. Owls, genera, Otus, Strix, and Bubo are included. Ostrich, loons, grebes, penguins, pelicans, ducks, geese, eagles, hawks, vultures, turkeys, chickens, grouse, cranes, gulls, terns, pigeons, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, parrots, toucans, larks, sparrows, cardinals, finches, warblers, and many other groups are included. Mammals are portrayed by over 680 different lifeforms. Included are larger world mammals, farm animals, and some dog and cat breeds. Platypus, kangaroos, carnivores including, lion, tiger, cheetah, and bears, seals, deer, antelopes, elephants, rabbits, mice, bats, monkeys, and many other mammals are included.
The arthropods are portrayed by over 4,700 different species plus and additional 500 subspecies for a total of over 5,200 species of arthropods. This site is very well endowed with information on the larger and exotic insects of the world. This site has coverage over 3,000 different butterflies and moths, Lepidoptera, and over 1,700 exotic beetles, Coleoptera. The Swallowtail, Papilionidae, family is nicely covered with over 600 different lifeforms. Papilio, Battus, Parnassius, Ornithoptera, Troides, Graphium, and other genera from both the New and Old Worlds are portrayed, and frequently pictures of females are included. The Heliconidae family is well represented with over 115 lifeforms. Nymphalidae, including many Charaxes, Agrias, and Prepona, Amathusidae, Saturnidae, and Sphingidae are also well covered. For example, in the Saturnidae famly we show over 300 different species of silk moths. The Actias, Attacus, Rothschildia, Copiopteryx, Arsenura, Imbrasia, Automeris, and Antheraea are explored in detail. The exotic beetles, Coleoptera, of the world are covered in great detail. We show multiple species of the goliath, goliathus, beetles, multiple species of Macrodontia, multiple species of Callipogon, multiple species of Cicindela, and a survey of the Plusiotus. We show over 12 species of Megasoma and over 10 species of Dynastes. Various crustaceans, including crayfish and crabs, spiders, wasps including a good survey of the Vespula genus, bees, mantids, and grasshoppers are also included. The marine mollusks are also well represented. Genera such as Conus, Cypraea, Strombus, and Murex have numerous species portrayed. We have a good sampling of sponges, Porifera, corals, Coelenterata, and other odd phyla.
In the seed plants we have over 4,600 full species plus an additional 400 varieties and subspecies. Of particular note is that we show over 3,200 seed plant life forms that are growing spontaneously in North America. In the trees we show over 40 different species of oak trees, Quercus, numerous birches, Betula, fruit trees, Prunus and Pyrus, and willows, Salix. Wildflowers are also included with many species of wild orchids including Cypripedium, Ophrys, and Orchis, and wild lilies, including Lilium, and 20 wild paint brushes, Castillejja. We need more Trillium species, as we show only 8 different species. Medicinal and food plants are also included with numerous genera including Mentha, Zea, Sorghun, Cocos, Allium, Juglans, Rubus, Pyrus, Prunus, Glycine, Citrus, Acer, Vitis, Daucus, Ipomoea, Capsicum, Lycopersicon, Solanum, Cucumis, and Triticum.
In summary whether one wants to study the wildflowers of the world including lilies and orchids in genera such as Lilium or Orchis, or trees such as oak, maple, willow, and birch in genera such as Quercus, Acer, Salix, and Betula, or whether one wants to review birdwing butterflies in the genus Troides or Ornithoptera, or swallowtail butterflies in the genera such as Graphium and Papilio, this site contains textual and image material related to the subject. Copiopteryx and Actias, the two genera with giant long tailed moths are included with numerous species portrayed.
